brahman
The truth of everything; the meaning of satyam jñānam anantam; one of four ṛtviḥs or priests employed at a Soma sacrifice.
In Vedanta
The limitless, non-dual reality that is the cause and substrate of everything. Defined in the Taittirīya Upaniṣad as satyaṃ jñānam anantam — existence, awareness, and limitlessness. Brahman is not an object of knowledge but the very self of the knower. It is both the material and intelligent cause (abhinna-nimittopādāna-kāraṇam) of the universe.
