mithyā
Existing only as dependent on something else; error.
In Vedanta
That which cannot be categorized as either absolutely real (sat) or absolutely unreal (asat). The world is mithyā — it is experienced but has no independent existence apart from Brahman, just as a pot has no existence apart from clay. Mithyā is not 'illusion' or 'non-existent' — it is dependent reality, empirically valid but not ultimately real.
