prajñā
Understanding; knowledge; wisdom; discernment.
In Vedanta
In the context of the Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad, prājña is the name of ātmā as identified with the deep sleep state — the third pāda. Prājña is the experiencer of causal ignorance, where all duality resolves into an undifferentiated state. The word also appears in the mahāvākya 'prajñānaṃ brahma' (Aitareya Upaniṣad), where prajñāna means consciousness itself — the nature of Brahman.
