sākṣī
Witness.
In Vedanta
The witness consciousness — ātmā as the unchanging awareness in whose presence all experiences (waking, dream, and deep sleep) are known. Sākṣī is not a 'watcher' in the sense of a subject observing objects, but the self-luminous consciousness that makes all knowing possible. It is never affected by what it witnesses, just as space is not affected by what it contains.
