śraddhā
Faith and trust in the pramāṇa and the guru.
In Vedanta
Trust in the words of the teacher and the śāstra — not blind belief but a willingness to hold the teaching as provisionally true while investigating it. Śraddhā is listed among the six inner disciplines (śamādiṣaṭkasampatti). Without śraddhā, the student cannot give the teaching a fair hearing. As the Gītā states: śraddhāvān labhate jñānam — the one who has trust gains knowledge.
