viśvaḥ
The name of the waker; complete.
In Vedanta
The name given to ātmā as identified with the waking state in the Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad. Viśva experiences the gross external world through the fourteen organs (five sense organs, five organs of action, and the fourfold mind). Viśva is the first pāda — not a separate self, but ātmā functioning through the waking body-mind.
